Welcome!
Welcome to Room 9. I am thrilled to be teaching sixth grade language arts and Social Studies. I have been teaching close to 25 years and I have been fortunate enough to teach all ages, preschool through the eighth grade.
Daily Planner. Please make sure your child gets into the habit of using their daily planner. I will write the assignments on the board and the students should copy them into their planner. So when you ask your child if they have any homework and they consistently tell you no, ask to see their planner.
Parent-Teacher Communication. I feel that communication between and school and parents is very important. My prep time is 8:47-9:42 and I am usually at school until 4:00. You can call during that time. Please feel free to use email. Email works much better for me.
History. This year your child will be studying ancient
history which includes early humans, Mesopotamia, India, Egypt,
Israelites, China and Greece (in that order). We will be using a newly
adopted text book, History Alive!
Language Arts. The district has adopted the Houghton Mifflin series that integrates reading, spelling and language. Along with this series we will be reading novels in Reader's Workshop. The children spend three periods a week in Writer's Workshop where they will be writing a variety of genres.
Parent Volunteers. I encourage parents in the class room during specific periods. The program works much better with the help of parents. Please contact me if you are interested in working in my classroom.
