Dear
Parent,
Per
our
conversation, you, your child, and I will begin monitoring your child’s
academic success through the use of weekly progress reports. It will be your child’s responsibility to
pick up the weekly progress report form from the office every Thursday
morning.
There is a reminder in the morning bulletin on Thursdays to remind
students to
collect the progress report so there is no excuse not to have it all
day. He or she should then present the
form to
each classroom teacher at the beginning of class that day.
The teacher will provide information
pertinent to the previous week’s work and sign the form.
Your student then needs to bring the
completed form home, discuss it with you, and return it to the school
office on
Friday morning.
I
will keep
completed progress reports on file in the office until the end of the
trimester. If I don’t receive your child’s
progress
report back in the office on Friday morning, I will phone or email you
just to
stay in touch. Parents are an important
part of this loop. I hope that if you receive a phone call or email
from me on
Friday that there will be some sort of consequence at home to help your
child
remember to follow through on the next week’s progress report. If I don’t receive the completed progress
report for more than two consecutive weeks, I will stop initiating the
parent
contact (though you are always welcome to contact me).
The
staff at
Brook Haven School is committed to working towards success for all
students. Research demonstrates that
parental involvement is critical for many students to succeed. By taking the time weekly to review your
child’s progress in school you are showing him or her that you value
academic
growth. I hope that the progress report
will encourage conversation at home about what behaviors help your
child to
succeed at school.
Thanks
for
collaborating with us on this proactive approach to student achievement.
Sincerely,
J.T.
