Fall 2008 News
Congratulations!
The Advanced Band did a wonderful job at their first festival of the season: The Analy Bandwagon Fall Festival. They really impressed the judges from UC Santa Cruz, San Jose State, and Cal State East Bay. The beginning band learned a lot too by watching and garnered praise on their own for their attention and good concert etiquette.
Fall Recital This Wednesday
The fall recital will be held this Wednesday at 7p.m. in the music room. A performance in this recital is required for most advanced band eighth graders, but a few 7th graders have signed up to perform as well. This is a formal concert of chamber music (small groups with only one player per part) and solo works.
All students and parents are welcome, even if they won't be playing in the recital. Sometimes recitals can be nerve-wracking for students who don't like to perform solo. Since all students will be required to perform in a recital by the end of the year, attending a recital now just to watch, might help nervous students know what to expect.
Dr. Collinsworth Clinic
Dr. Collinsworth, the new professor of bands and music education at Sonoma State University, will be holding a clinic for the Brook Haven Advanced Band on Monday, November 17th. This is rescheduled from our original October date. We have scheduled an extended band period, from 7:40-9:40 to allow ample time for Dr. Collinsworth's feedback. Please be especially early, well-rested, and well-fed on this day.

It was a bit easier to get up this morning for advanced band and it showed with only one absence today. Please continue to make sure the students are here in time to be ready to play at 7:40 a.m.. Students with chronic absences and tardies should expect a penalty in their grade - it's very difficult to learn ensemble skills if you're not present to play with the ensemble.
